Wreck of the Violetta

Wreck of the Violetta | aquasport.tv

In September 1977 the Violetta is reported to have caught fire between Tumby Bay and the Sir Joseph Bank group of Islands – No Lives were lost. The wreck remained lost until 2010 when a survey of the area identified an anomaly on the sea floor.

Local knowledge and some research contributed to the assumption that the anomaly could possibly be the remains of the Violetta.

In August 2013 I carried out a concise area survey to derive more accurate target acquisitions for diving on.

A dive was carried out in August 2013 on the primary target for the purpose of videoing, and to assist with identifying the target.

Ratification was made with the assistance of maritime publications and local knowledge.

The Violetta, Built 1953, Ex Miranda, sinking 1977, 10-12km out of Tumby Bay.
