Sweet Coly

Sweet Coly

Exploration Doux de Coly: An old dream of Günter and me came true.

With a dive distance of over 11’350m in one dive, the Doux de Coly is considered the longest cave dive in Europe. And for us too, this was the longest scooter route we have ever done in one piece.

When I started cave diving, there were three cave divers who stood out above all the others.. Sheck Exley, Jochen Hasenmeyer and the Swiss Olivier Isler. They engaged in a friendly competition. And this cave played a major role. I read with great admiration the reports in the Speleo magazines and the description in Martyn Fahr’s book about the explorations of Olivier Isler, who made history in this cave. And when the two new “shooting stars” Reinhard Buchaly and Michael Waldbrenner from the EKPP continued the exploration and laid the line end 5’675 m from the entrance, this was a seemingly unreachable goal for us “strokes”. ….

Now, exactly 20 years later, we arrived at this historic site and were able to admire the end at that time. With new technology and equipped with good light and cameras.

The line was still in excellent condition after 20 years and we could only be astonished at what a perfect line the EKPP had laid back then. Even though the EKPP has been criticised by some in the past, what it achieved was exceptional and must first be emulated. Excellent Olivier, Reinhard and Micha!!!

But diving is strictly forbidden there. And you have to expect serious consequences. Therefore, we know that this publication will trigger many negative posts.

But we haven’t disturbed anyone, and no one has lived in this place for years. And we believe that even for those who criticise us now, it is interesting to see such a historic cave in its beauty.
