In the month of June and about 4 days before the full Moon Melbourne spider Crabs moult. After Moulting the Crabs are soft and too a local Sting Ray a juicy delicacy. All the Ray wants is to suck out the juicy inside-similar to the way some deal with Oranges. There are so many Spider crabs the Rays do not impact on their numbers.(to use this video in a commercial player or in broadcasts, please email licensing@storyful.com )

  2. Great footage Pang – was my hope to do just this – place a Gopro next to the Ray and get the equivalent footage, might have to wait til next year though, as I whimped out this year – old bones and all !!!!

  3. Today marks the biggest and worst surprise attack in crab history, may we never forget the fallen crabs. #R.I.P crabs.

  4. Thank you for sharing this excellent short documentary. When the crabs moulted, it looked like they had new bodies.

  5. I wish I wasn’t disabled. I would love to dive with such amazing creatures.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful footage… I would never have been able to witness this first hand. So amazing!!

    • no problem, there are a few of these “lower cost” (being completely subjective term) ROV’s coming out. the same company makes a cheaper one but it’s a DIY thing so you have to be comfortable with building complex things.

Cody, thank you! That is awesome. I appreciate the tip!

I will be sure to pass it on to him when I go to his house in the morning. He has always wanted to dive again. Even with the help of the “typical” gear… his lungs couldn’t keep up. But… if he could be assisted with the swimming part completely… it would be very possible for him to dive again. Now that I have returned from my obligatory service stent… I can put more time into making sure his last couple years on earth as good as they can be. Again, thank you!

    • Hey besides the assholery that is going on here. if your pop want’s to dive google OPEN ROV Trident. it’s a fantastic way to dive but not get wet
