Wreck of the SS Investigator

Wreck of the SS Investigator.

She sunk on the South West Side of Wardang Island, Yorke Peninsula, out of Port Victoria, South Australia.

The captain having bunked down, gave explicit instructions to the Officer of the watch to wake him when the Light from Wardang Island was abeam. The Officer, thinking he was doing the Captain a good deed, decided to let him sleep through. The officer gave poor instructions to the coxswain, and she foundered.

This was not the first time for the SS Investigator.. In 1910 the SS Investigator was reported as being a total wreck when she grounded at Point (Cape) Elizabeth in Spencer Gulf, near what is now Port Hughes. Whilst it was reported she was a total wreck back then, in actual fact they were able to salvage her.

The SS Investigator is a lovely dive, one of Many, around Wardang Island.

I hope you enjoy.
