Biarritz Gabriel Abiven Champion of France ESTV Euskadi Surf TV

The Breton surfer Gabriel Abiven, 14 years old licensed at the 29 Hood Surf Club of Penmarc’h in Finistère was crowned Champion of France Cadet of Surfing in Biarritz in the Basque Country.

The Finistérien de Plomeur licensed at the 29Hood Surf Club of Penmarc’h created the surprise among the cadets in the final. Arch favorite of the cadet final in shortboard after his demonstration the day before (10/10 in the semifinals in particular), Inigo Madina never found the right wave to express himself and, when he thought he had it, the Hendayese did not succeed in his first rollerblade. Trapped by the waves of the Grande Plage, so favorable the day before, the vice-world champion ran behind the young Breton Gabriel Abiven author of the best score on his first wave of entry: a big right well hollow with a committed turn (6.83 pts). And if Madina managed to catch up little by little, Abiven settled the victory with a back up in the last moments. A last thrill came to run through the Breton clan when Madina started on a final wave just before the buzzer, and it took a long time for the note to be announced. Finally, the score was insufficient (5.03 pts) and Gabriel Abiven won his very first France championship title in joy.
