Griffin Colapinto’s Triple Barrel, Holy Graal of surf, during Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast 2018

Griffin Colapintos 10 Point Triple Barrel Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast 2018 Highlight

Yesterday was a very special day for the american surfer Griffin Colapinto, but it was also an unforgettable day for the Surf world. Griffin Colapinto was competing in the quarter final of the Quicksilver Pro Gold Coast 2018 at Kirra Point, Queensland, Australia, against the tahitian surfer Michel Bourez when he made an unexpected triple barrel, surfing in the middle of the pipe formed by the wave for three times in a row. Already a double barrel is considered something special because it happens rarely, but a triple one is a real holy graal for the surfers. After completing successfully the second barrel Griffin threw his arms up to celebrate the performance but then another wave crested forming a third tube and Griffin made it once again and celebrating of course also this third barrel. Thanks to this triple barrel Griffin gained a perfect score of 10 points taking down with no mercy his tahitian opponent.

In the interviews Griffin Colapinto states that he didn’t expect that and it was crazy. He wanted just to go out and get any kind of barrel. He never did a triple barrel and the first time that he did it, it was during in a contest such Quicksilver Pro Gold Coast, and that was insane.

Along with that this was a really big surprise because this triple barrel was made not by a world champion or a big name of Surf but by Griffin Colapinto that is a rookie. He is 19 years old, from california and after a great success in the Juniors scene he started to travel the world to collect Qualifying Series points to make the World Tour and find his place amongst the big names. After the performance of yesterday he made it.
