We came to enjoy a day of snorkeling in Los Frailes, a beautiful archipelago located 13 km off the east coast of Margarita Island, considered one of the best places to practice diving and snorkeling, as it is an uninhabited area , lacking in services, the only method to arrive is with guided visits through contracted services. It is constituted by a group of 6 islands and 4 uninhabited rocks, located 10 nautical miles off the northeast coast of Isla de Margarita.
Due to its northern location, it has special characteristics, such as the presence of a large amount of nutrients suspended in the water, the islands do not have a beach but they do have many areas whose seabed is wonderful with countless diversity of marine flora and fauna; This is due to the oceanographic phenomenon that consists of the vertical movement of water masses, towards the surface, bringing as a consequence a wide biological diversity. The transparent waters of this area show the colors offered by the diversity of fish and corals.
From the area of Playa el Tirano or Manzanillo, boats leave with capacity for 15 people and fully equipped that comfortably transport you to the Snorkeling courses that start from early in the morning, with a theoretical introduction on the subject of snorkeling, followed by introduction practice freestyle diving.
At 10:30 am we are leaving to do the first practice of snorkeling, the exit from the beach is a little shaken by the shock of the boat against the waves, but after passing this area the trip becomes pleasant and lasts only half an hour . For beginners in your group, we recommend using a “Snorkeling Vest”. The guides will give a quick explanation about the Snorkeling, and will know a little better the participants and their abilities! Snorkeling practices in general are always very slow, without hurry about 40 or 50 minutes, planned in calm and clear waters. During the internship you can learn about the highlights of the fauna and flora of the Caribbean Sea, ideal for recording videos and taking photos with the participants.
Around 12:00 pm, we visited the “Rancho de Chuito”, a lookout with the atmosphere of a typical Margariteño restaurant. The grilled food, with chicken and fish, bread, salad and fruits, drinks and coffee, all delicious! After the pleasant lunch, we rest until 01:30 pm, and prepare the equipment for the second dive. After our brifing we will assemble the team and we will launch in a different place.
